The panel discussion was lively. I skipped the dinner to hang out with Aimee and Eva, so I came in a bit late. (Also missed the passing out of the t-shirts, dammit. Most rectify today). There were a number of interesting discussions, many of which my poor memory will not allow me to record here. Don posed three questions to the group (keep in mind that this is a 125 headcount room full of xml zealots):
1. How many of you want to use XSD? Almost or no hands raised. I had the advantage of sitting at the back of the room.
2. How many of you want to use RNG? A few more hands, but still certainly a timid response. It left me wondering how many people just thought RNG would be better because Tim Ewald said is would be.
3. How many of you would like to use a domain specific language? The majority of the room raised your hand.
Don: That's an interesting bit of [market research]. No. Thanks. Really, that's good. (not verbatim -- most definitely filtered through my neurons).
Chris Sells compared the XSD/RNG choice to the Bush/Kerry choice, i.e. (paraphrasing his words) you've been around the block in the former, and so you don't really want to repeat the experience, but at the same time, you don't really know whether what you are going to get from the latter is any better. Funny stuff.
